A record number of Colombian bird species
The author Peter Boesman could use his database of over 23.000 recordings from the Neotropics to compile this MP3 Sound collection. While this formed an excellent basis to start from, it is thanks to the many contributions of other recordists that this comprehensiveness could be achieved! No less than 5575 recordings of 1644 species are included on this single MP3-DVD! That is aprox. 95% of all the Landbirds of Colombia. The collection of recordings has a total playing time of over 46 hours! Never before such an extensive publication has been published for Colombia!
Colombia is the country with the highest diversity of birds on earth. For decades however, safety issues made it largely inaccessible to the international birding community. In recent years, this situation has changed miraculously for the good, and it is now soon becoming a top traveling destination for eco-tourism. Therefore, Peter thought it would be helpful to publish a work on the birds vocalizations for all of Colombia. We hope this MP3-DVD will help birders and scientists in many ways, and will eventually - by continued interest in eco-tourism and conservation - benefit the marvelous birds of Colombia!
All the sounds on one MP3-DISC
When preparing a birdtrip to Colombia, the selection of birdsounds is a labourintensive and time-consuming task. Now Peter Boesman has done this work for the birdwatcher visiting Colombia. The sounds for this production were carefully selected, checked and integrated by him. To make it even more easy all recordings are ready to put on your smartphone, Android, iPhone, iPod, iPad or any other MP3-player (as long as it has 2 GB of space). And of course it can be played on any computer PC, Mac or Linux.
A landmark production
This collection can be considered quite complete (> 95% Colombian birdspecies can be found on this single disc). It includes most of the vocalizations commonly heard while exploring Colombian nature. This is the first time ever such a complete collection is being published for Colombia. Nearly half of all South-American birdspecies are presented on this single disc.
Many of the recordings have been taken by Peter Boesman in Colombia during his trips all over the country in the last 5 years. To increase the overall comprehensiveness an important number comes from other (neighbouring) neo-tropical countries.
Every recording includes embedded information such as English name, Scientific name, Date and time of recording, Locality name with coordinates, Recordist, and in some cases further remarks or comments about background species. This information can be consulted in standard software like Windows Media Player, iTunes and even on some MP3 players like the iPod series. Typically several soundfiles per species are included, e.g. to illustrate different types of vocalizations, to illustrate some degree of geographical variation or to document vocalizations from different corners of a bird’s distribution.
